Water sustains life, fuels the economy and shapes the development of societies. Yet more than 2.1 billion people around the world still lack safe access to this essential resource.

To mark World Water Day, the United Nations invites us this year to reflect on the relationship between water and gender, reminding us that ensuring access to water not only improves health and quality of life, but also opens the door to greater opportunities for development and equality for millions of people worldwide.

Every 22 March, the world celebrates World Water Day, an initiative led by the United Nations to highlight the importance of protecting and sustainably managing one of the most essential resources for life and development.

In a context defined by climate change, growing water demand and the challenges associated with water security, this day becomes an opportunity to reflect on how we use, manage and preserve this strategic resource.

Since its creation in 1993, World Water Day sought to raise awareness of the need to guarantee universal access to safe drinking water and sanitation, an objective aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6.

Water is not only a natural resource: it is a driver of development, health and progress for societies.

1.- Water and Gender: The Focus of World Water Day 2026

The theme chosen this year by the United Nations is:
Water and Gender

A campaign that highlights the close relationship between access to water and equal opportunities.

In many regions of the world, women and girls remain responsible for collecting and managing water for domestic use, which affects their education, health and participation in economic activity.

Ensuring safe access to water also means opening new opportunities for social and economic development.

For this reason, the central message of this edition is clear:

Where water flows, equality grows.

Promoting sustainable water solutions also means advancing towards more inclusive management models, where women and men participate equally in planning, management and decision-making in the water sector.

2.- Water Engineering to Address the Major Challenges of the Future

Sustainable water management is now one of the great global challenges.

Industry, cities and energy infrastructures increasingly depend on technological solutions capable of ensuring efficient, safe and responsible water use.

World Water Day 2026

Technological innovation makes it possible to optimise water use and advance towards circular economy models in industry.

Water engineering plays a key role in:

  • optimising water use in industrial processes
  • promoting water reuse
  • reducing the environmental impact of discharges
  • improving water efficiency in critical infrastructures

Every technological advance in water treatment and reuse helps preserve this strategic resource for sustainable development.

Technological innovation is one of the most effective tools for ensuring responsible water use.

3.- Commitment to Water, Commitment to the Future

At J. Huesa Water Technology, we have spent more than five decades developing technological solutions for the treatment and sustainable management of water in the industrial sector.

Our work is guided by a clear objective: to help industry optimize water use and move towards more efficient and sustainable management models.

Through each project we seek to:

  • maximise water efficiency
  • promote water reuse
  • reduce the environmental impact of industrial activity
  • contribute to responsible management of the water cycle

Caring for water today means ensuring tomorrow’s development.
