Huesa technical team opted for<br \/>\nbiological treatment using MBR membranes with external membranes and a final refining stage with<br \/>\nreverse osmosis, as a solution for reusing the water.<\/p>\n<p>To corroborate the suitability of the chosen treatment, in an initial stage of the project, a pilot test was<br \/>\ncarried out based on the proposed treatment line to verify the validity of the design data and the<br \/>\nbehaviour of the technological solution for the nature of this wastewater.<\/p>\n<p>The duration of this pilot run was extended over several months, treating a total of 12 batches of different types of feed, to achieve a minimum representativeness for biological treatment, and to identify design criteria, as well as to determine and test the necessary pre- and post-treatments.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_16981\" style=\"width: 419px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16981\" class=\"wp-image-16981 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/jhuesa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Foto-pilotaje-MBR.jpg\" alt=\"pilotaje mbr\" width=\"409\" height=\"494\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jhuesa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Foto-pilotaje-MBR.jpg 409w, https:\/\/jhuesa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Foto-pilotaje-MBR-248x300.jpg 248w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-16981\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">MBR external membrane reactor<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Characterization_of_the_effluent_and_plant_design_parameters\"><\/span>Characterization of the effluent and plant design parameters<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Once the pilot project had been carried out, the following conclusions could be drawn:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We found biodegradable discharges, which confirm that MBR is the appropriate treatment for<br \/>\npurifying water.<\/li>\n<li>Reverse osmosis is positioned as a technology capable of meeting the internal requirements of<br \/>\nour client, which needs to adapt the quality of its wastewater to reuse it in its production process.<\/li>\n<li>Considering the scale of the project and the requirements of the water for its reuse, it was<br \/>\nproposed to the client that the second step of reverse osmosis should not be included from the<br \/>\nbeginning to assess the performance of the proposed solution in terms of the main parameters<br \/>\nthat it must meet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Adopted_solution\"><\/span>Adopted solution<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>J. Huesa has designed a solution based on the technical objectives of the client and the general<br \/>\nobjectives of the project, which includes a water purification and reuse line, consisting of an MBR with<br \/>\nexternal ultrafiltration membranes with a sludge line, followed by a reverse osmosis line for reuse within the production process.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that the water treatment plant has been designed with everything necessary to be<br \/>\nable to expand in the event of an increase in our client&#8217;s production and even if there is a variability in<br \/>\nthe discharge.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Pretreatment\"><\/span>Pretreatment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The wastewater from the production process flows into the treatment plant and converges in a pumping well.<\/p>\n<p>As the raw water is unbalanced, the homogenization of the characteristics, both in capacity and load, is<br \/>\na key factor for the correct functioning of the treatment design. For this reason, the water is conveyed<br \/>\nfrom the sieve to the homogenization basin, which is equipped with an agitator whose function is to<br \/>\nkeep the contents of the basin permanently homogenized, so that when the effluent is transferred to the biological reactor, the effluent will have the most homogeneous characteristics possible.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"MBR_Membrane_Biological_Reactor_with_external_membranes\"><\/span>MBR (Membrane Biological Reactor) with external membranes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The effluent requires a drastic removal of the organic load to be treated by reverse osmosis. The most<br \/>\neconomical and efficient alternative is a biological treatment.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, a biological treatment with membrane clarification (MBR) has been selected, since the<br \/>\nwater is ultrafiltered and therefore optimally suited for subsequent <a href=\"https:\/\/jhuesa.com\/en\/technologies\/reverse-osmosis\">reverse osmosis<\/a> treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Given the great variability in the nature of the discharges, external tubular clarification membranes have<br \/>\nbeen selected. The J. Huesa<br \/>\nInstrumentation and Control team has designed the control panel so that it can be integrated into the<br \/>\ncustomer&#8217;s SCADA system.
