Huesa<\/span><\/strong> successfully completes the commissioning of an industrial wastewater treatment plant for a leading multinational in the sale of pulses that is immersed in an expansion of its factory to accommodate a new line of cooked pulses.<\/p>\n<p>Once the analytical parameters of the starting water had been analysed, together with the current and<br \/>\nfuture requirements of our client, the technical team of <a href=\"https:\/\/jhuesa.com\/en\/company\/about-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">J. This technology integrates the<br \/>\nbiological reactor and the decanter in the same tank, so that the system operates by means of<br \/>\ntreatment batches developed over time in stages, with the clarification of the mixed liquor being one ofthe stages of the process.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Pretreatment\"><\/span>Pretreatment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The discharge from the factory is collected in a civil works well in which a pumping system has been<br \/>\ninstalled, with a back-up pump. The pumps are designed to withstand a peak flow of 20 m3\/h.<\/p>\n<p>To prevent malfunctioning and clogging of coarse solids, a roughing screen has been installed to<br \/>\nretain the coarsest solids (&gt; 1mm).<\/p>\n<p>The roughing system prior to the homogenization tank consists of a rotary sieve. Self-cleaning device,<br \/>\ncapable of operating for long periods of time without the need for extensive maintenance.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_16116\" style=\"width: 778px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16116\" class=\"wp-image-16116 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/jhuesa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Detalle-tamiz-rotativo-768x1024.png\" alt=\"detalle tamiz rotativo\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jhuesa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Detalle-tamiz-rotativo-768x1024.png 768w, https:\/\/jhuesa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Detalle-tamiz-rotativo-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/jhuesa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Detalle-tamiz-rotativo.png 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-16116\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rotary Sieve Detail<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The solid particles are retained on the surface of the screen and are conveyed by the scraper, which<br \/>\nis responsible for separating them and depositing them on an inclined tray to fall by gravity, and are<br \/>\nsubsequently collected in a container for their management.<\/p>\n<p>The next step in the treatment line is a homogenization tank, which is equipped with a coagulant<br \/>\ndosing system to reduce phosphorus. To counteract the acidification of the mixed liquor, a soda<br \/>\ndosing system is included. A pH meter is installed to monitor this parameter at all times.<\/p>\n<p>The homogenization tank has a double function: on the one hand, to homogenize the flow to avoid<br \/>\ncontamination peaks and to have space to store spillage in case of failure of one of the main<br \/>\ncomponents of the system. In conventional biological treatment, there<br \/>\nare at least two distinct stages: firstly, the biological reactor in which the organic matter meets the microorganisms that eliminate it, and then a clarification process in which the biomass or sludge is<br \/>\nremoved from the treated effluent, normally by decantation.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the nature of the organic matter present in the effluent to be treated, the use of oxygen<br \/>\nmay or may not be necessary for its metabolization.<\/p>\n<p>The SBR type biological reactors differ from conventional treatments in that they integrate the<br \/>\nbiological reactor and the decanter in the same tank, operating the system by means of treatment<br \/>\nbatches developed over time in stages, with the clarification of the mixed liquor being one of the<br \/>\nstages of the process, obtaining two advantages over the conventional system such as the reduction<br \/>\nof the space occupied by the installation and increased flexibility of the aeration &#8211; anoxia processes<br \/>\nnecessary for the elimination of nitrogen.<\/p>\n<p>A SBR such as the one installed at our customer can divide its operation into operating cycles in<br \/>\nwhich the following phases can be distinguished:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Filling:<\/strong> fundamental phase of the process in which the feed rate, the volume to be maintainedin the tank and the concentration of the reactor play an important role.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reaction:<\/strong> Occurs simultaneously with the previous phase; in this phase the reactor conditions (anoxic, anaerobic, and aerobic phase) that facilitate the elimination of organic matter and nonsedimentable solids are realized.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Resting\/decanting:<\/strong> After the reaction, a reactor rest stage is necessary to favour the gravity settling of the micro-organisms inside the reactor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Emptying:<\/strong> the discharge is evacuated on the surface of the reactor, since the clarification of the mixed liquor that takes place in the previous phase remains on the surface of the reactor.\n<div id=\"attachment_16135\" style=\"width: 525px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16135\" class=\"wp-image-16135 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/jhuesa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Detalle-vertedero-flotante.png\" alt=\"depuradora\" width=\"515\" height=\"702\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jhuesa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Detalle-vertedero-flotante.png 515w, https:\/\/jhuesa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Detalle-vertedero-flotante-220x300.png 220w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 515px) 100vw, 515px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-16135\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Detail of the floating spillway<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Purging or emptying<\/strong> of excess sludge produced in the biological reactor.<\/li>\n<li>The following measuring elements have been installed to ensure the correct operation of the SBR:\n<ul>\n<li>Tank level meter, a key piece that regulates the operation of the different stages that<br \/>\ntake place in the SBR tank.<\/li>\n<li>Redox and pH meter, necessary to know the redox potential of each of the reactor<br \/>\nphases and to optimise the nitrification\/denitrification processes, as well as to control<br \/>\nthe reactor aeration system.<\/li>\n<li>Aeration system consisting of a grid of diffusers distributed over the entire surface of<br \/>\nthe reactor. The internal sludge removal system in the reactor tank is<br \/>\narranged in such a way that large quantities of sludge can be pumped out in one go. In this way,<br \/>\nlonger concentration and thickening times are used before purging, reaching higher concentrations<br \/>\nand thus reducing the amount of sludge to be managed.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Instrumentation_and_control\"><\/span>Instrumentation and control<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The WWTP is equipped with instrumentation and control elements (automatic valves, pressure<br \/>\nswitches, pressure transmitters, flow meters, conductivity and pH meters&#8230;) which communicate with<br \/>\nthe programmable logic controller, included in the control panel, through IO-Link technology.<\/p>\n<p>The control panel also includes a touch screen for the operation and configuration of the plant. J.<br \/>\nHuesa&#8217;s Instrumentation and Control team has designed the control panel so that it can be integrated<br \/>\ninto the customer&#8217;s SCADA system.
